I am dedicated to helping you get to the root of your issues.
Sandra Shahrokh (she/her)
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I am passionate about providing support to people as they seek to understand their emotions and behaviors on a deeper level. I am passionate about getting to the root of your issues and consider my approach as collaborative, compassionate, non-judgmental, and depth oriented. I want you to feel your voice is being heard in our work and that trust is being built. I am grateful for my own work in therapy that consisted of traditional and holistic modalities and provided a space that allowed me to process what was going on in my life with no judgement.
I have received training in a variety of evidenced based treatments from my training in working with adults in addiction treatment as well as a teen residential treatment center. I have training in Internal Family Systems through the IFS institute, CBT, DBT, and psychodynamic psychotherapy. I use an eclectic approach depending on my initial assessment with my clients.
Drawing from my own multicultural background and experience as a Latina, child of an immigrant I am passionate and attuned to how one’s cultural background could be impacting their relationships and family dynamics. I am also passionate about exploring how intergenerational and legacy burdens can impact your mental health.
Before I became a therapist I guided individuals in substance use treatment centers through a pranayama breathwork practice that focused on clients engaging with their bodies in an accessible way. I believe in the importance of being able to access your emotions through the mind body connection. After completing my breathwork training I went on to further my knowledge through obtaining my masters. I hold a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University with a specialization in spiritual and depth psychology. To read more about my approach on a technical level please scroll down.
My Approach
I utilize a modality called Internal Family Systems. I have completed the Level 1 training through the IFS institute. IFS believes that we are all are born with multiplicity of the mind. This is where the idea of parts comes from. We are all born with parts that emerge naturally over time. Parts can be experienced as thoughts, feelings, POV, dreams, and/or sensations. We also all have a Self, who we are most at our core. We seek to understand and honor all the parts of you. There really is no bad part of you, just parts that get stuck in extreme roles usually due to trauma and attachment injuries.
The goal of IFS is to restore balance and harmony to your life through witnessing your parts and allowing the Self to lead your internal system. Our work together will consist of strengthening your relationship to yourself so you can begin to make sense of your past and learn to understand your behaviors and have compassion for it.
Additionally, I bring in other modalities such as CBT, DBT, psychodynamic psychotherapy, and Breathwork.
